In this, the Moorabbin Little Athletics Centre’s 40th year, it promises to be an exciting season, with refurbished track and field facilities and our new competition time slot on Friday evenings.

We welcome new and existing members. We are a not for profit club operating for the benefit of local families, providing a high quality athletics program.

The program starts at under 6 (On track program) and caters for children all the way up to under 15s. Many of our older athletes go on to assist with coaching and starter duties once they have completed the program. We rely on parents to assist with athlete age groups and we encourage all members to become familiar with the various rules and regulations pertaining to different activities.

The athletics season runs from October until March, coinciding with the Victorian Little Athletics regional and state athletics activities. Moorabbin Little Athletics has many athletes who go onto to represent the club at a both regional and state levels.

We encourage parents to bring the kids along and have a try at the start of each season, our experienced coaches will spend time with families explaining the various activities and providing quality coaching to participants.

From the President:

Welcome everyone to the 2011/2012 Moorabbin Little Athletics season…the Centre’s 40th year. This season promises to be an exciting one with not only the refurbished track and field facilities, but also the new competition time slot on Friday nights. It has become apparent from fluctuating member numbers, that we lose a significant number of older athletes to more mainstream Saturday morning (team) sports…We feel we already offer a significantly different product to other Athletics Centres in this area due to our size and family friendly environment, and the Friday night competitions will further enhance this. Our local families will have a better chance to participate in as many sports as possible, especially the great fun activity that is Little Athletics.

Many thanks to the people who put up their hands to help out this season…we need you. As a Centre, thank you sincerely, as we cannot do it without parents’ help. On the ‘helper’ note, a special mention to Lorraine Learmonth who, due to the changing Friday timeslot is forced to leave us…this is a great shame as Lorraine was just bestowed Life Membership for her countless years of service to the Moorabbin Little Athletics Centre and children…you and your wonderful family will be missed and our best wishes go out to you.

‘A Commitment to Training’ was last years big message and whilst we want that to continue, this season, we want to encourage increased participation at our Regional Events, including the Regional Relays and Regional Track and Field Events. Along with Centre Championships, these events are truly the pinnacle of the season and are a great eye opener to the hidden talent that lies in our midst. A number of Moorabbin athletes enjoyed some fantastic results last year at both Regional and State events …there are more talented children around us, I’m sure of it…

So if you’re new to the Centre, or you’re joining us again this season, the message from me is the same…It’s your Centre and I encourage you all to use as many of the opportunities provided to participate and enjoy all our children’s efforts. Help out, we need it every week and please feel free and welcome to give us feedback whenever you can or feel the need. Don’t be shy to offer to help wherever and whenever you can. Keep your eyes open around the Centre, check your emails and best of all check out the new MLAC website for all your Centre info...

Welcome, best wishes and best of luck to everyone for an enjoyable and successful season at Moorabbin Little Athletics Centre 2011/12

Kindest Regards

Andrew Robinson
